Careforest

Taking care of the forests to protect local and global ecosystems and the human life

International project

Ref.: 2019-1-ES01-KA201-065866.
International project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, within the key activity 2 for the school education sector (KA201), with a duration of 2 years and a budget of 265,773 Euros.

Environmental preservation has become one of Europe’s firm commitments for the 2020 Agenda. In addition, it is also deemed a cross-cutting objective concerning the quality of life of European citizens. Not only does Europe value the fact that forests and their habitats constitute a significant part of our landscape, but there is also the awareness of their harbouring of thousands of animal and plant species.
It is important to stress that this natural wealth provides a costless process for air and water purification, helps sustain the economy by acting as a source of foods and raw materials and, at the same time, serves as an unquestionable attraction for tourism. Furthermore, forests act as the major element in the fight against climate change by means of CO2 fixation and are a key factor in the production of oxygen for life preservation.

In this context, this project focuses on two main objectives:

a) Raising awareness about the care and protection of the forests, which are nowadays threatened not only by environmental and water pollution, but also, very particularly, by frequent major fires throughout Europe, especially in the Mediterranean basin.

b) Europe is becoming increasingly committed to the protection of citizens and this is the main objective in the case of forest fire catastrophes. Therefore, the second decisive aspect considered in this project is the protection of citizens against the risk of human losses in forest fire catastrophes. Recent forest fires throughout Europe (Greece, Spain, Italy…) have resulted in a large number of casualties, suggesting that there is a generalised lack of understanding as to how to proceed in such situations.

The main result of this project will be an e-book on life in the forest and the effects of fires. This e-book will include graphic and multimedia materials, such as 2D and 3D animations, videos, images, illustrations, etc. in order to communicate its contents while, at the same time, encouraging students to apply ICT in their learning process. In addition, an online platform will also be created, which, apart from offering access to the e-book, will include different sections destined to raising awareness on the need to preserve the life in the forests and take action to prevent fire.
